Born from the idea of how to re-use a mannequin, the team at Pivot Point approached the children’s charity, Little Lady Locks, with the idea of using the unwanted mannequins to hold the wigs.
Pivot Point mannequins can be re-used time and time again by a stylist, but there comes a point when they invest in a new one and putting a mannequin in the bin for landfill is such a shame.
“We see lots of creativity from hairdressers, upcycling the mannequins when they have come to the end of their usable life. From plant pots and educational tools mapping out section lines, to lollypop dispensers,” explained Jan Laan, Vice President International Business Development for Pivot Point.
“These are great and we are committed to reducing the impact we have on the environment. The idea of using the mannequins to hold and store wigs is so simple, and we are happy to be collaborating with such an amazing charity on this.”
The scheme calls on Pivot Point mannequin users to donate any unwanted mannequins directly to Little Lady Locks, where they will be gifted to every girl and boy receiving their wig from the charity, to help care for the wig at home; as well as the team at HQ using them to colour the wigs.
“It’s these offers of help from the hair industry that help us so much with our charity work and the mannequins will make such a difference as we expand our team of colourists to make it easier to work on the wig. Having a brand like Pivot Point sharing our story and wanting to help our charity and little ladies and little lads means the world,” said Ashley Higgins, founder of Little Lady Locks.

Donated mannequin head without and with wig
“It was an absolute yes to get involved with the Pivot Point UK and Little Lady Locks collaboration,” mannequin donor, Kerry Galliano added. “To make a difference for children who need our support, to help build their confidence and identity at a very emotional time, and to know how much it means to them. It makes so much sense to me to use unwanted mannequins that are smaller and similar size of a child’s head shape for the children to hold and keep their much-loved wigs cared for.”
