Pinterest Launches Beauty Guides to Turn Inspiration into Action

Beauty inspiration should be more than a screenshot you hope to find again before your next appointment.

Today, Pinterest is launching Beauty Guides, a new AI powered experience that turns hair and nail Pins into personalised, actionable guides designed to help people recreate the looks they discover on Pinterest.

Beauty Guides use Pinterest’s visual understanding technology to analyse a look in a Pin, identifying details such as hairstyle, color, nail shape and finish.

That visual understanding is combined with a large language model to turn what you see on Pinterest into a useful guide for real life, including what to ask for at the salon, what to expect during an appointment, similar looks to explore, relevant products and set by step instructions.

When users open a hair or nail Pin in closeup, they can tap Get the Guide to access their guide and save it  for their next appointment or use it to recreate the look at home.

The experience addresses a familiar challenge in beauty discovery – people often know exactly what they want when they see it, even if they do not have the words to describe it.

Beauty Guides help bridge that gap by understanding the image itself and translating visual inspiration into something people can act on.

“People come to Pinterest with a point of view, even if they don’t know the words to describe it,”  said Matt Madrigal, Chief Product and Technology Officer Pinterest. “Beauty Guides use our visual understanding technology and AI to help people go from seeing a look they love to knowing how to make it their own, whether that means knowing what to ask for at the salon, finding the right products or recreating the look at home.”

Pinterest is a visual search and shopping platform built for the moments when people are deciding what to try, buy, or do next.

Those journeys do not always begin with words. They often begin with an image, feeling, or something that catches your eye.

Beauty Guides show how Pinterest can use AI to make those visual journeys more actionable. By combining visual understanding with generative AI, Pinterest can understand the details within an image and transform them into guidance people can use in the real world.

It is one example of Pinterest Intelligence, the system that brings together Pinterest’s first party signals, visual understanding technology and purpose built AI models to power more personalised and actionable experiences across the platform.

Instead of stopping at “I love that,” Pinterest can help people get to “I know what to do next.”

More than 85% of Pinterest users say they discover new beauty trends and ideas on Pinterest before seeing them anywhere else.

That discovery feels personal- compared with the competitive average, users are 79% more likely to say Pinterest’s beauty content feels extremely relevant to them, including ideas that reflect their own skin tone and hair type.

When inspiration turns into intent, people trust Pinterest to help them decide what to try next: nearly nine in 10 Pinterest users say they feel confident buying beauty products they discover on the platform.

Beauty Guides is now available to iOS users in the U.S., with plans to expand to more people and regions over time, as well as to introduce guides across additional product categories.
