In this expert breakdown, Andrew Heasman- Creative Director at RUSH Hair- shares his insights on why the newly evolved stacked pixie is set to dominate 2027 salons, complete with his top tips for cutting and styling this texturised look.
“The stacked pixie has been around for many years, but for it’s been reinvented for 2027. Featuring longer length at the front graduating to shorter hair at the back, this cut maintains it’s full-bodied nature with a softer approach with the inclusion of layers.
The layers emphasise movement, giving it an almost ‘stacked’ appearance, as well as texture and a more effortless finish. Layers are also prominent towards the back of the head, differentiating the stacked pixie from the signature pixie cut.
This haircut is particularly great for those who have fine hair that want to give the illusion of more body and volume. It also looks beautiful on all face shapes, but particularly on those with rounder face shapes as the longer length at the front of the face helps to create the illusion of a more elongated face shape.
When it comes to styling this haircut, clients love it for its low maintenance appeal. Simply using a large paddle brush and hairdryer will have this cut looking incredible, as the hair will fall to the head’s natural shape with a gorgeous volume at the top. However, in terms of visiting the salon, clients will need to visit more regularly to have their bob cut/trimmed to keep the graduation looking clean and seamless and layers looking precise.
To create this look, you should firstly cut the perimeter and lower sections at the back of the nape area and then, taking the hair in sections, cut in a 45-degree angle working from the middle of the back outwards. Bulk can be removed by point cutting whilst also starting to add a slight texture to hair before you go in and create your layers. I think this will be one of our top cuts for 2027 – I’d love to see it paired with a short, wispy fringe and styled with waves to emphasise that ‘cool girl’ texture and finish.”
