Professional Beauty Comes Together at Climate Week NYC

The professional beauty industry will come together during next month’s Climate Week NYC for a collaborative event focused on advancing industry-wide sustainability, aiming to make sustainability more practical, accessible and actionable across salons and the professionals who work in them.

Organized by the Green Beauty Community Foundation (GBCF) and hosted at amika‘s New York office at 25 Kent in Brooklyn, the September 23 gathering will bring together official event partners including amika, Green Circle Salons, Innersense Organic Beauty, John Paul Mitchell Systems, Pivot Point, Sustain Beauty Co. and Ulta Beauty

The event, part of GBCF’s national 2026 Green Salon Impact Tour, will include technical education, hands-on sustainability activations and an industry conversation centered on collective action. The initiative is designed to connect technical beauty education with practical sustainability programming.

The program is designed specifically around the professional salon ecosystem, with each partner contributing a distinct piece of the experience.

“Individual companies throughout beauty have been doing meaningful sustainability work for years,” said Daniel Johnson, Founder and Executive Director of the Green Beauty Community Foundation.

“What has been missing is a place where those efforts can come together around the professionals actually working behind the chair. Climate Week gives us an opportunity to bring that conversation into a much larger environmental forum.”

The Realities of Sustainability

At the center of the event is a simple question: Who are you sustainable for?

Throughout the experience, beauty professionals will be invited to connect sustainability to the people and communities that matter to them while also sharing their perspectives on the challenges they encounter when attempting to make more sustainable choices.

The collaborative format is intended to bring perspectives together in one place, so the event reflects the realities of stylists, salon owners, educators, brands, retailers and sustainability organizations rather than any single company’s point of view.

GBCF also plans to gather attendee perspectives on sustainability priorities, terminology, barriers to change and the resources beauty professionals need. Those findings are expected to help inform post-event education and future industry programming.

The gathering reflects a larger goal for the Green Beauty Community Foundation: creating a neutral space where organizations that may compete commercially can collaborate on environmental challenges that no single company can address alone.

Everyday Sustainablity

The goal is not to present professional beauty as having solved sustainability, but to create a forum where participating organizations and beauty professionals can share what is working, identify what is still difficult and move the industry forward together.

Attendees will participate in technical education and interactive experiences exploring topics including responsible sourcing and ingredients, waste recovery and circularity, water conservation, sustainable salon operations, professional product use and the everyday decisions that influence a salon’s environmental footprint.

The afternoon will culminate in a moderated discussion with leaders from across professional beauty examining both the progress the industry is making and the obstacles that continue to slow wider adoption of sustainable practices.

The event will conclude with networking and a rooftop reception overlooking New York City.
