More than 1,200 guests from over 100 countries gathered at the CHI Cancun Conference 2026 to celebrate Dr. Farouk Shami, the founder of Farouk Systems, Inc., and the 40-year legacy he has built in professional beauty.
Held at Moon Palace Resort in Cancun, Mexico, the conference brought together hairstylists, educators, distributors, and industry leaders whose work has been shaped by his commitment to innovation, artistry, and the professional hairstylist.
The celebration honored what Dr. Farouk has created while looking ahead to the next chapter for Farouk Systems.
The conference opened with a Welcome Party that gave guests from across the company’s global community a chance to reconnect.
Host, Madison Brodsky, led a leadership discussion with Dr. Farouk Shami, Mego Ayvazian, Lisa Marie Garcia, Anna Manukyan, and Sylvia Herrera about the future of the CHI and BioSilk brands.
Among the developments discussed were the renovation and return of SunGlitz, a product with a place in Farouk Systems’ hair color history, and the introduction of BioSilk Gold, marking a new chapter for the BioSilk brand.
Guests also explored the company’s newest professional and retail tools and wet-line products through interactive booths throughout the weekend.
“This conference represented everything that makes the Farouk Systems family special- education, innovation, creativity and people from around the world coming together through a shared passion for our industry.
“Celebrating 40 years is an incredible milestone, but it is also about looking forward. We are continuing to innovate, continuing to educate, and continuing to give hairstylists the tools and opportunities they need to grow,” said Mego Ayvazian, Global President of Marketing, Shows and Education for Farouk Systems.
Education remained at the center of the conference. Farouk Systems artists led classes in color, cutting, styling and product knowledge, with techniques and ideas attendees could bring back to their salons.
Anna Manukyan, beauty executive, educator and founder of Beautiful Wealth, led a session on financial education and wealth building for beauty professionals. She discussed the role financial knowledge plays in building sustainable careers and businesses in the industry.
“We have everything we need to continue growing this industry and uplifting the hairstylist. Hairdressers do so much more than change someone’s haircut or color- they help people feel good about themselves. There is an artistry and a sense of well-being in what we do that is incredibly powerful,” explained Dr. Farouk Shami, founder of Farouk Systems.
The weekend culminated with the 40th Anniversary Gala and international hair show. Teams representing countries and regions from around the world transformed the stage through hair, fashion, performance and storytelling.
Anna Cantu – “Bouquet”
Anna Cantu opened the show with a deeply personal tribute to Dr. Farouk Shami titled “Bouquet.”
As a first-generation Mexican artist, Anna incorporated cultural elements into the performance, beginning with mariachi musicians serenading Dr. Farouk Shami.
The models represented presenting him with his flowers in recognition of his legacy. The models were colored and styled using CHI’s Ruby Anniversary tools, connecting the performance directly to the company’s 40th anniversary celebration.
Team USA
Team USA drew inspiration from urban elements, showcasing edgy cuts, bold color, and modern styling. CHI LAVA tools were incorporated into the looks, creating a contemporary, fashion-forward presentation.
Team Baltic
Team Baltic presented extraordinary hairpieces while telling a larger story about unity. The performance represented the different countries coming together to form Team Baltic and included a book that symbolically told Dr. Farouk Shami the story of those countries uniting. The elaborate hairpieces became one of the visual highlights of the evening.
Team Mexico
Team Mexico brought glamour and intricate hairstyling to the stage, showcasing highly detailed looks and a polished presentation celebrating artistry and technique.
Team Middle East
Team Middle East combined elaborate hairstyling with theatrical entertainment, including acrobatic dancers and dramatic visual elements. The detail and craftsmanship of the hair remained at the center of the performance.
Team Canada
Team Canada’s presentation opened with cabaret dancers and developed into a high-energy runway-style performance. The hairstyles complemented intricately beaded wardrobe pieces, bringing hair and fashion together as one complete visual story.
Team Europe/Germany
Team Europe/Germany incorporated live creative storytelling into its presentation. Models entered carrying bouquets, and artists pulled flowers from those bouquets, to construct floral-inspired hair looks onstage. The transformation allowed the audience to watch the concept come to life in real time.
Mego Ayvazian – Grand Finale
Mego Ayvazian closed the international hair show with a dramatic interpretation of the four elements: Water, Fire, Earth and Air.
Each element was brought to life through elaborate hairstyles, styling, and theatrical presentation. The finale concluded with sparklers and a confetti drop, creating a fitting final moment for the 40th anniversary celebration.
The 40th Anniversary Gala also recognized people whose contributions have helped shape Farouk Systems.
Beverly Bernard Morrison was honored as The First Lady of SunGlitz for helping bring SunGlitz to life and establish its legacy.
Dr. Dennis Morrison was honored for his scientific leadership and visionary collaboration with NASA, which helped bring advanced technology into beauty innovation.
The company also presented awards recognizing loyalty and contributions to Farouk Systems.
Following Mego Ayvazian’s grand finale, Dr. Farouk Shami returned to the stage for a celebration of the family behind the company.
His son, Rami Shami, CEO of Farouk Systems, presented him with the Legendary Award. The honor recognized the founder whose vision, passion for hairstylists and commitment to innovation have guided Farouk Systems throughout its 40-year history.
The presentation then moved to the next generation. Farouk Shami Jr. took the stage to present his father, Rami Shami, with the Legacy Award, recognizing his leadership and his role in carrying the Farouk Systems vision forward.
With Dr. Farouk Shami, Rami Shami and Farouk Shami Jr. together onstage, the presentation became a powerful three-generation moment, honoring where Farouk Systems began, the leadership guiding the company today, and the next generation continuing the family’s legacy.
It was a personal conclusion to a conference that had brought the global Farouk Systems community together to celebrate its history and look toward its future.
“We started with SunGlitz, and now we are celebrating 40 years of growth and success- for hairdressers, our distributors, and Farouk Systems. I am a hairdresser, and I will never leave this profession. I have been doing hair for 61 years, and it has been my honor. As we celebrate 40 years, we will continue working together as one global family. Thank you for helping make my dreams come true,” said Dr. Farouk Shami.
For the stylists and salon owners in attendance, the conference connected creative education with the business knowledge needed to build lasting careers.
It also brought together perspectives from more than 100 countries, making the company’s 40th anniversary a celebration shared by the global community that helped build it.
