The highly regarded texture artist and educator Dominique-LyVar Tucker has passed away suddenly aged 49, leaving the beauty community reeling from the loss of one of its most influential voices in curl and texture education.
Known professionally as Dominique Ly’Var, he built a career spanning more than two decades, working as an educator for major brands including Aveda, Paul Mitchell, and DevaCurl, and co-founding The Curl Crew.
He was perhaps best known as the visionary behind the Uzuri Method, an approach to texture-inclusive education that Dominique taught through his Manhattan-based salon and coaching practice.
Creating a GoFundMe page in support of Dominique’s husband, Damien Scott, hair stylist and close friend Keya Neal wrote that the master stylist would be remembered for both his extraordinary talent and his grace.
“Dom was a light—a bright, beautiful light that shined for everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was a superstar – not only because of his extraordinary talent, but because of the person he was. He was humble, supportive, kind, loyal, and endlessly generous with his gifts.
“Dom had a presence and a gift that were larger than life, yet he never considered himself too important to support others in the smallest ways. He showed up wherever he was needed—not for recognition or applause, but because that was simply who he was.”
